The screenplay is not nearly as clever as it thinks it is, basically hiding its truths while treading water so that it can surprise us at the end.

Depth is replaced by lots of closeups of his face and distorted shots of him looking contemplative.

This silly thrill-ride is much more fun than it has any right to be.

Cronenberg's creativity is what leads to a movie like this feeling so disappointing as the final credits begin to roll.

It will give opening weekend horror crowds what they are looking for (blood, gore, thrills, action and suspense). It will also give them way more.

It is an uncomplicated, very tense, efficiently told, pro-soldier/anti-war movie.

It is relatively light on blood and not scary at all. It is funny, though, and generally pleasant to watch.

It is entertaining, but reined in where chaos could have made it soar.

This is very skillful genre filmmaking, with an understated, no-nonsense, flair. It’s a pleasure to watch.

The jokes are mostly lame, the story absurdly predictable and the characters totally generic.
